How Much Monocouche Render Do I Need?
Quick Answer
~15–20kg/m² for a typical 15mm application
Based on: single-coat through-coloured render at 15mm thickness, approximately one 25kg bag per 1.3–1.7m²
How We Calculated This
Monocouche (single-coat) render is a factory-mixed, through-coloured render that combines the scratch coat and finish coat in one application:
- Application thickness: 15–20mm (typically 15mm)
- Coverage per 25kg bag: 1.3–1.7m² at 15mm
- Example: 20m² wall ÷ 1.5m²/bag = ~14 bags (25kg)
What Is Monocouche Render?
Monocouche is a single-coat, through-coloured cement-based render. Unlike traditional sand and cement render, it does not need painting — the colour runs all the way through. It is applied in one pass using a rendering machine (pump) or by hand, then scratched or scraped to create the desired texture.
Popular UK Monocouche Products
- K Rend Silicone TC30: ~1.5m²/bag at 15mm, wide colour range
- Weber Pral M: ~1.3m²/bag at 20mm, machine applied
- Parex Monorex GM: ~1.5m²/bag at 15mm, scraped finish
- Baumit NanoporTop: ~1.5m²/bag at 15mm, self-cleaning
Application Notes
- Substrate must be clean, sound, and dampened
- Apply to a minimum temperature of 5°C (and rising)
- Use a proprietary base coat or key coat on smooth substrates
- Do not apply in direct sunlight or high winds
- Protect from rain for at least 24 hours after application
Tips
Monocouche render is best applied by machine for consistent coverage and speed. Always use bellcasts, corner beads, and stop beads from the same manufacturer to ensure compatibility. Order all bags from the same batch to avoid colour variation.
