How We Calculate This

This calculator determines the components needed for a shaft wall system based on the shaft perimeter, height and fire rating requirement.

The formula

Liner panels = Shaft perimeter ÷ 600mm panel width

C-studs = Shaft perimeter ÷ Stud spacing + 1

For a 4m perimeter shaft at 2.7m height: liner panels = 4 ÷ 0.6 = 7 (+ waste = 8). C-studs = 4 ÷ 0.6 + 1 = 8. J-track = 2 × 4 = 8m (3 × 3.6m lengths).

  • Shaft liner panels: 25mm thick, 600mm wide, friction-fit into J-track
  • C-studs: Metal I/C sections at 600mm centres, full height
  • J-track: Floor and soffit channel, receives panels and studs
  • Face boards: 1×15mm (60 min) or 2×15mm (120 min) fire-rated board
