VAT Threshold Calculator

Track your rolling 12-month turnover against the VAT registration threshold

How We Calculate This

Enter your turnover for the last 12 months. The calculator sums it and compares the 12-month total against the £90,000 VAT registration threshold (the historic test), and flags the month your cumulative total first crosses £90,000. This tool covers the historic 12-month test only — the separate 30-day forward-look test (registering when you expect to exceed £90,000 in the next 30 days alone) can still require registration even if your past 12 months are under. For VAT planning it compares standard-rate VAT (output VAT at 20% of net sales, minus the input VAT you reclaim on purchases) against the flat rate scheme (your VAT Notice 733 percentage applied to gross, VAT-inclusive turnover). If you leave input VAT at zero the standard figure is output VAT only, so the flat-rate saving shown is an upper bound — enter your purchase VAT for a like-for-like comparison.
