How much LVT flooring do I need?

Measure your room length × width and add 8% for wastage. LVT generates less waste than laminate due to smaller tile sizes, but you still need extra for cuts at edges and around obstacles.

What is the difference between stick-down and click LVT?

Stick-down LVT is glued to the subfloor with adhesive (approximately 0.5 kg/m²). It’s thinner (2–3mm) and more stable. Click LVT has interlocking edges and floats on underlay (4–6mm thick). Click is easier for DIY.

What formats does LVT come in?

LVT comes in plank format (typically 1220 × 180mm) for wood-look designs, and tile format (typically 457 × 457mm) for stone-look designs. Wide planks and large tiles are also available.

Do I need underlay for LVT?

Click-lock LVT needs a thin underlay (1–2mm) for sound insulation and minor levelling. Stick-down LVT does not use underlay — it bonds directly to the prepared subfloor.

How much adhesive for stick-down LVT?

Use approximately 0.5 kg/m² of pressure-sensitive or acrylic LVT adhesive. A 5kg tub covers about 10m². Apply with a V-notch trowel and allow to become tacky before laying tiles.

The formula

Tiles = Floor area × (1 + Waste %) ÷ Tile area

Adhesive (kg) = Floor area × 0.5 kg/m\u00b2 (stick-down only)

Trim pieces = Room perimeter ÷ Trim length (2.4m)
