LVT Flooring Calculator — Tiles, Adhesive & Trim

Measure your room length × width and add 8% for wastage. LVT generates less waste than laminate due to smaller tile sizes, but you still need extra for cuts at edges and around obstacles.

Stick-down LVT is glued to the subfloor with a pressure-sensitive or acrylic vinyl adhesive (this calculator allows about 0.22 kg/m²). It’s thinner (2–3mm) and more stable. Click LVT has interlocking edges and floats on underlay (4–6mm thick). Click is easier for DIY.

LVT comes in plank format (typically 1220 × 180mm) for wood-look designs, and tile format (typically 457 × 457mm) for stone-look designs. Wide planks and large tiles are also available.

Click-lock LVT needs a thin underlay (1–2mm) for sound insulation and minor levelling. Stick-down LVT does not use underlay — it bonds directly to the prepared subfloor.

Split the room into rectangles and enter each one as its own section with the Add section button; the calculator adds the sections together for you. Tile or plank counts and pack counts are rounded up per section before being added, which allows for the extra cuts where the sections join and never under-orders. Adhesive is worked out from the combined floor area because it is spread continuously, and perimeter trim uses each section's full perimeter, a deliberate slight over-count at the join so you do not run short. Use three sections for a T or U shaped room.

This calculator allows about 0.22 kg/m² of pressure-sensitive or acrylic LVT adhesive as a conservative spread rate. F. Ball Styccobond F49 is rated at up to 6 m²/kg with the A1 fine-notch trowel (a 5kg unit covers up to ~30m²), so 0.22 kg/m² builds in a margin for trowel technique and subfloor porosity (a 5kg unit then treats ~23m²). Apply with the fine-notch (A1) trowel the adhesive maker specifies and allow it to become tacky before laying tiles.
