Door Glazing Calculator

Calculate glass panel sizes, safety glass requirements and Part K critical locations for doors and side panels

Height of bottom edge of glazing above FFL

How We Calculate This

This calculator sizes glass panels for door glazing by deducting beading overlap from the aperture dimensions. It checks whether the panel falls within an Approved Document K critical location (doors and side panels: within 1500 mm of floor; other walls/windows: within 800 mm, per AD K Diagram 5.1) and, where it does, states the impact class required by AD K para 5.4 — Class 3 of BS EN 12600 (Class C of BS 6206), or Class 2 (Class B) for a door or side-panel pane wider than 900 mm. The minimum thickness shown is an indicative glazier rule of thumb, not a code figure — actual thickness depends on wind/barrier loading and span, so confirm it with your glass supplier. Georgian bar counts are derived from glass dimensions divided by bar pitch.
