How We Calculate This

This calculator estimates the total length, cost and ordering quantities for window boards and sills.

The formula

Total cost = (Order length × Price/m) + End caps + Labour

  • Order length (default) = total length × 1.1 (10% waste allowance for cut-to-length boards)
  • Order length (fixed stock) = whole boards needed × board length, where sills per board = floor(board length ÷ sill length)
  • Shaped nosing (bullnose/pencil) on timber/MDF adds a small machining uplift (~£1.50/m) over a plain square edge; uPVC and stone cills come pre-formed
  • End caps: 2 per window for uPVC boards (~£2.50 each)
  • Labour: £20 per sill for uPVC/timber, £45 for stone (marble/quartz/slate)

Material, end-cap and labour rates are indicative UK trade estimates (verify against a current quote — prices vary by region and supplier). The price-per-metre is yours to set, so it always reflects your actual board cost.
