How We Calculate This

This calculator estimates the total cost of window replacement including supply, installation, scaffolding and building control fees.

The formula

Total = (Windows × Price each) + Scaffolding + Disposal + Building control

  • You enter your own per-window price — style, material and glazing type are recorded for reference and do not change the total
  • Scaffolding default ≈£800 (indicative; two-storey hire runs £800–£1,500/week in 2026) if upper floors need access
  • FENSA/CERTASS registration self-certifies and avoids a separate local-authority building-control fee (typically £200–£500)

The energy-saving figure is an indicative whole-home Energy Saving Trust value (a per-property band, not a per-window rate): replacing single glazing throughout with A-rated double glazing saves ~£140/year for a typical semi, while upgrading old double glazing to a modern A-rated window saves much less (~£100/year whole-home). Part L 2021 requires a replacement window in an existing dwelling to achieve a U-value of 1.4 W/m²K or better (Window Energy Rating Band B), in force since 15 June 2023.
