How We Calculate This

This calculator determines the materials needed for a dropped kerb vehicle crossover including kerb units, sub-base and tactile paving.

Kerb count

Dropped Kerbs = ceil(Crossover Width / 0.915m)
Transition Kerbs = 2 (one each end)
Standard dropped kerbs and transitions are 915mm long to BS EN 1340.

Footpath reinstatement

Sub-base depth is typically 150mm for pedestrian loading or up to 300mm for heavy vehicle crossings. The concrete figure adds a footway slab (≈100mm) plus an indicative bedding-and-haunch allowance per kerb run — treat the haunch figure as an estimate to BS 7533-6 (minimum 100mm bed, 150mm haunch, ST1/C7-8 concrete); confirm the exact bedding detail against the kerb manufacturer's install guide.

Tactile paving

Tactile paving area = crossover width × (rows × 0.4m), each row being one 400mm tactile slab. For most domestic crossovers no blister paving is required (DfT 2021, section 2.5.4). Where it is needed at a higher-traffic access, use 1 row (400mm) for an inset/acute crossing or 3 rows (1200mm) where it lies in the pedestrian line of travel (section 2.4.2).
