Textured Coating Calculator — Coverage by Texture Depth

Calculate textured masonry coating quantities from wall area and texture depth. Includes stabiliser primer and crack filler estimates.

Total exterior wall area

Linear metres of cracks (assumes ~10×10 mm crack)

Include stabiliser primer

For chalky/friable surfaces — estimated at 6 m²/L (Sandtex Quick Dry Stabilising Solution)

How We Calculate This

This calculator determines textured coating quantities based on wall area and desired texture depth. Heavier textures require more product per square metre.

The formula

Coating (kg) = Wall area × Coverage rate (kg/m²) × Wastage factor

Stabiliser (L) = Wall area ÷ 6 m²/L × Wastage factor

Crack filler (kg) = Crack length (m) × 0.15 kg/m

For example, 60 m² exterior wall with a medium roller texture at 1.7 kg/m²: 60 × 1.7 = 102 kg + 10% waste = 112.2 kg. That's 5 × 25 kg tubs. Stabiliser: 60 ÷ 6 = 10 L + 10% = 11 L.

Coverage rates by texture

Rates are taken from current weight-sold UK datasheets (Wethertex Pliolite range, 25 kg tubs; Cornerstone Performance Tyrolean render). Substrate porosity and applicator technique change real usage.

  • Fine / spray texture: 1.25 kg/m² — about 20 m² per 25 kg tub (Wethertex MP44, light end)
  • Medium roller texture: 1.7 kg/m² — about 15 m² per tub (Wethertex LD77)
  • Heavy trowel/bark: 2.5 kg/m² — about 10 m² per tub (Wethertex HD77)
  • Tyrolean render (trowel/machine): 13.5 kg/m² — about 1.85 m² per 25 kg bag at 7 mm (Cornerstone Performance Tyrolean)
