Venetian Plaster Calculator — Multi-Coat Coverage Rates

Calculate Venetian plaster quantities: primer, 2-3 coats at different coverage rates, and wax or sealer topcoat by finish type.

How We Calculate This

This calculator estimates all materials for a Venetian plaster finish, including primer, multiple plaster coats, and the protective topcoat (wax or sealer). Each coat has a different coverage rate because the application technique varies — the first coat is applied more generously for coverage, while subsequent coats are thinner and more precise.

The formula

Per coat: Material (kg) = Wall area × Coverage rate (kg/m²) × Wastage factor

For example, 20 m² of polished Venetian plaster: Coat 1 = 20 × 0.35 × 1.10 = 7.7 kg (2 × 5kg tubs), Coat 2 = 20 × 0.30 × 1.10 = 6.6 kg (2 tubs), Coat 3 = 20 × 0.20 × 1.10 = 4.4 kg (1 tub). Total = 5 tubs. Plus wax at 0.04 L/m² = 0.88 L (1 × 1L tin).

Coverage rates are based on industry averages for lime-based Venetian plasters (stucco lustro and marmorino types). Acrylic-based Venetian plasters may have slightly different rates — check the manufacturer's data sheet.
