How We Calculate This

This calculator determines the hot water flow rate a combi boiler can deliver at various temperature rises, helping assess whether it can meet the property's demand.

Formula

  • Flow rate (L/min): (kW × 60) ÷ (4.186 × ΔT), where 4.186 kJ/kg·K is the specific heat of water
  • Common quoting basis: 35°C rise (10°C in to 45°C out) — the most common UK manufacturer convention, but some specs use 30°C or 40°C, so check the data badge
  • Summer: ~25°C rise gives higher flow
  • Winter: ~45°C rise gives lower flow
  • Effective kW: Rated DHW kW × derating factor
