How We Calculate This

This calculator helps plan condensate pipe installations for condensing boilers in accordance with BS 6798 and manufacturer guidance. It checks run lengths, fall requirements, and external installation compliance.

Key rules

  • Maximum run: 3m (21.5mm, firmly cited); 6m (32mm) and 10m (40mm) are typical trade sizing convention — follow the boiler manual
  • Minimum fall: ~45mm/m (2.58°) per HHIC / BS 6798; some makers require 3° (52mm/m)
  • External runs: Minimum 32mm, insulated, keep short (≤3m); trace heating in exposed locations
  • Condensate rate: ~0.10 L/kWh at full fire (HHIC: ~2 L/hr for an efficiently working boiler) — e.g. 3.0 L/hr for a 30 kW boiler
  • Termination: Soil stack, trapped gulley, or limestone soakaway
