How We Calculate This

This calculator determines the correct board type, stud spacing and material quantities for a curved plasterboard wall based on the required bend radius.

The formula

Arc length = Radius × Angle (radians)

Wall area = Arc length × Wall height

For a 1500mm radius, 90° curve at 2.4m height: arc = 1.5 × 1.571 = 2.356m. Area = 2.356 × 2.4 = 5.65 m². At 150mm centres that is ceil(2356 ÷ 150) + 1 = 17 studs (the +1 is the closing stud — N gaps need N+1 studs).

Minimum bend radii (dry bend)

  • 6mm Glasroc F MultiBoard: 600mm radius (single or 2 × 6mm)
  • 9.5mm Gyproc WallBoard: 1800mm radius
  • 12.5mm Gyproc WallBoard: 3600mm radius
  • 15mm Gyproc WallBoard: 4800mm radius

Figures from the British Gypsum White Book GypWall CURVE table (Minimum bending radii and stud centres, horizontal board orientation). Other manufacturers (e.g. Knauf) quote different radii — check the data sheet for your board.
