Temporary Works Calculator

Check propping, formwork, and falsework loading requirements

How We Calculate This

Select the temporary works type and enter the imposed load, span, and height. For propping, falsework and shoring the calculator applies your safety factor to get the design load, then divides by the prop's safe working load to find the number of props and their spacing — so enter the SWL at your actual prop extension, not the closed-length figure (per BS EN 1065 capacity falls sharply as a prop extends). For formwork it computes the conservative lateral concrete pressure (25 × pour height, BS 5975:2019 cl 17.4.2) and gives an indicative raking-prop count for vertical wall formwork only; slab-soffit falsework should follow the manufacturer's load tables or a temporary works design. Inspection requirements follow BS 5975 and HSE guidance.
