Cavity Tray Calculator — Length, Weep Holes & Stop Ends

Calculate cavity tray length, weep hole positions and stop ends for openings in cavity masonry walls.

Clear width of the window or door opening (structural opening)

Safety notice

Structural elements must be designed or checked by a structural engineer before construction. Treat these figures as initial guidance for planning and budgeting, not a structural design.

How We Calculate This

This calculator determines cavity tray lengths, weep hole quantities and stop ends for openings in cavity masonry walls. Cavity trays sit in the same wall build-up as the ties that bridge the leaves — see our calculator for how many wall ties per m² the cavity wall needs, including the extra ties required at opening reveals.

Tray length

Tray Length = Opening Width + (Extension x 2)
Standard extension: 150mm each side. Stop ends: 2 per opening.

Weep holes

Weep Holes = ceil(Opening Width / Spacing) + 1
Minimum 2 per opening (one each end). Maximum spacing 450mm.

Working figures for this are collected in our UK Cavity Tray Types & Specifications reference table.
