Conservatory Roof Replacement Calculator — Weight & Compliance

Assess structural impact of replacing a conservatory polycarbonate or glass roof with a solid insulated or tiled system including weight increase and Part L compliance.

How We Calculate This

This calculator assesses the structural and regulatory impact of replacing a conservatory roof.

Weight analysis

Existing roof weight per m² is compared with the new roof system. The total weight increase determines whether structural reinforcement is needed.

Insulation

An indicative U-value is estimated from the PIR thickness using the simplified relation U = 1 ÷ (Rsi + d ÷ λ + Rse), with roof surface resistances Rsi + Rse = 0.14 m²K/W (BS EN ISO 6946 / BR 443) and λ = 0.022 W/mK. The target is 0.15 W/m²K (AD L Vol 1 2021, incl. 2023 amendments, Table 4.2 — Roof). This single-layer figure ignores deck, membrane, plasterboard and rafter bridging, so a full layer-by-layer calculation is required for Building Control.
