Conservatory Glazing Calculator

Calculate roof panels, wall glazing, ridge, eaves beam and structural bar requirements

How We Calculate This

This calculator determines conservatory glazing quantities from the plan dimensions, roof pitch and shape. Roof glazing area is the plan footprint divided by cos(pitch) — the Roof Slope Factor (sec θ), which is exact for a uniform pitch. Faceted (Victorian) and combination (P/T) plans extend the footprint by an indicative plan factor; these factors and the ventilation allowance are trade rules of thumb, not published standards, so confirm against the supplier's roof drawing. Rafter bar count comes from width divided by bar spacing; wall glazing area uses the open perimeter and dwarf-wall height. Heat loss is a simple steady-state estimate, Q = U·A·ΔT at a 20°C temperature differential, using glazing U-values per BS EN ISO 10077 / BS EN 673 (BS EN ISO 6946 is not used — its scope excludes windows and glazed units). For compliance, check the Approved Document L 2021 limiting U-values.
