Dust Exposure Calculator

Check construction dust levels against WELs and select appropriate RPE

How We Calculate This

Select the dust type to look up its WEL. Enter the estimated airborne concentration and exposure duration. The calculator computes the 8-hour TWA, applies dust extraction efficiency if used, then divides by the Assigned Protection Factor of the RPE class you selected (HSE HSG53 Fourth edition, Figures 8 to 14) to give the protected exposure level. Compliance needs two things, not one: the protected exposure must be within the WEL, AND the class you selected must meet the APF 20 minimum HSE sets for construction dust in CIS36 Revision 3. That floor is applied only when RPE is actually needed, so a job already within the WEL on engineering controls alone is not asked for a respirator it does not need.
