Scaffold Access Stairway Calculator — Tower Dimensions & Rest Platforms

Calculate scaffold stairway tower requirements: tower dimensions, number of flights, rest platforms at 4.5m intervals, handrails, and alternative ladder access.

Height from ground to highest working level

How We Calculate This

This calculator determines scaffold access requirements — either a stairway tower or ladder access — based on the scaffold height and usage.

Stairway tower design

  • Flights: Each flight rises approximately 2.0m with a half landing
  • Rest platforms: Rule of thumb of roughly every 4.5m of rise (and at each lift level); follow NASC SG25:20 and the manufacturer’s stair-tower drawings
  • Tower size: Typically 1.4m × 2.5m in plan
  • Handrails: Both sides of stairway, continuous
