How We Calculate This

This calculator estimates pumping time, checks reach adequacy and calculates pump hire cost for concrete placement.

Pumping time

Equivalent Distance = Horizontal + (Vertical × 3)
Friction Loss = Equivalent Distance × 0.1% per metre (≈1% per 10m)
Effective Rate = Rated Output × 75% efficiency × (1 − Friction Loss)
Pumping Time = Volume / Effective Rate
Chargeable hours = max(Minimum Hire, Pumping Time rounded up). The 75% efficiency allows for setup, truck-waiting and mix consistency.

Reach check

A boom pump's headline metre figure is its vertical reach; its usable horizontal reach is lower, taken here as about 85% of the nominal figure (e.g. a 32m boom reaches ~27m horizontally). The placement passes only if Vertical ≤ nominal reach and Horizontal ≤ 0.85 × nominal reach.
