Asbestos Removal Calculator

Calculate asbestos removal or encapsulation requirements by material type and area. Determines if licensed contractors and HSE notification are needed under CAR 2012.

Material type determines risk classification

Area of ACM to treat or remove

Removal = dispose; encapsulation = seal in place

How We Calculate This

This calculator classifies asbestos-containing materials by risk level per the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 and estimates removal or encapsulation requirements.

Risk classification

Non-licensed work: Low-risk materials like cement sheets and floor tiles where the material is in good condition and will not be significantly broken up.

Notifiable non-licensed work: Some lower-risk work that must be notified to the enforcing authority, such as textured coating removal and gasket replacement.

Licensed work: High-risk materials including insulating board, pipe lagging, and sprayed coatings. Requires HSE-licensed contractors, ASB5 notification (14 days), and full containment with negative pressure enclosures.

Disposal requirements

All asbestos waste must be double-wrapped in UN-approved asbestos waste bags (red with asbestos warning), transported by a licensed carrier with consignment notes, and disposed of at a hazardous waste landfill with the appropriate permit.
