The volume, weight and labour figures below are indicative estimating allowances based on typical UK trade practice — not standards-derived values — so adjust them for the actual fittings, substrate and site access on your job.
Waste estimation
Suite pieces: Each sanitary ware item (WC, basin, bath/shower tray) is allowed approximately 0.18 m³ of loose waste at around 35 kg per piece. A standard 3-piece suite weighs roughly 80-120 kg in total (ceramic items are heavy; acrylic baths are lighter).
Tiling: Wall and floor tile area × depth (tile + adhesive bed, typically 10-15mm) gives volume. Ceramic/porcelain tile with adhesive is taken at about 2.0 t/m³, within the published 1.8-2.4 t/m³ range for ceramic tile.
Flooring: Floor area × buildup depth for screed, ply or vinyl substrate, estimated at about 1.5 t/m³.
Labour estimate
Typical estimating allowances — not a published standard — are around 1 hour per suite piece, 0.2 hrs/m² for tile removal, 0.15 hrs/m² for flooring, 0.75 hrs per plumbing cap and 0.5 hrs per electrical isolation. Actual times vary with access, fixing method and condition.

Skip count is based on loose waste volume against a 6-yard builders skip (≈4.59 m³). Heavy inert waste such as tiles and screed is also weight-limited: many operators cap a 6-yard skip at around 1-1.5 tonnes and recommend a smaller skip for dense rubble, so check the total weight estimate and your supplier’s limit before ordering.
